What is a Pocket Forest?

A Pocket Forest is a small, densely grown forested area designed to bring nature closer to our homes and parks. These green spaces contribute to biodiversity, improve air quality, and provide a sanctuary for local flora and fauna.

The Buhr Park Pocket Forest

Planted in the Fall of 2024 with support from many volunteers and the Parks and Recreation department. The site, located near Wet Meadow 3, west and south of Edison’s bench, create a 50’x60’ area with a path down the middle. It is a model and inspiration to be used in other parks and other open spaces such as yard.
